Event Description

Glassblowing is a beautiful and ancient artform, and one anyone can try!

Glassblowing is a beautiful and ancient art form, and one anyone can try! This 6-week, beginner-friendly class will cover the fundamentals of working with furnace glass: gathering, shaping, blowing, etc. Collaborating in teams, students will learn to use tools to manipulate and control the molten glass and explore basic color application techniques. Every student can expect to leave this workshop with the ability to create simple functional and sculptural forms of their own design along with an enhanced appreciation for the rich history of glassmaking.

What to Expect: This course will focus on foundational techniques and each student can expect to bring home a variety of simple forms. Class time will be split between demonstrations and practice in teams. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Glassblowing takes repetition and practice – expect failures along with successes. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately. To learn more about accessibility the Accessibility page on our website.

Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at ar*****@********ss.org if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
